Remember our Ripmo AF review from the 2020 Bible of Bike Tests, where we wondered if the slight geometry and kinematic tweaks Ibis had made to the aluminum version of its highly praised long(ish)-travel 29er would migrate from the frame jig back into the carbon molds?

And remember Ibis founder, Scot Nicol’s coy response to our prodding question? It went a little something like, “We are analyzing the data and crunching the numbers on our slide rule right now.”

So, we weren’t exactly surprised when Ibis’ second-generation Ripmo showed up as a carbon copy of the AF. You know what else we weren’t surprised about? That the new Ripmo is astonishingly good.

Ibis thankfully didn’t completely mess with the bike’s numbers. The geometry found on the AF, and now the Ripmo 2, isn’t wildly different than the original. Small adjustments such as a slightly longer reach, a 1-degree slacker head angle, and more progressive leverage rate, mean that the character of the Ripmo we fell in love with in 2018 is still intact.
