I tested POC’s high-end Tectal helmet back in 2017. It was comfortable and well-ventilated, but I gently criticized it from a value perspective, given that it cost almost $200 and didn’t feature any rotational force mitigation system, such as a MIPS liner. Posed with this criticism, POC responded at the time that they intended to offer the Tectal with MIPS but wanted to get the shell dialed in first.

Turns out, POC was working on something new: Its SPIN system, which integrates rotational force mitigation into the pads. Instead of an elastomer-suspended MIPS liner or bare elastomer dampers—like Kali’s LDL strips or Leatt’s Turbines—POC claims that their carefully placed SPIN pads will shear or shift to reduce those same rotational forces. The pads have medical-grade silicone inside, which plays a role in this function and keeps the interior of the helmet comfortable.
